After landing The Oscars “First Journalist Award for Youth in Africa” in Egypt following his superlative coverage of the Africa Cup of Nations 2019 for FLO-FM 94.9 Umuahia, Odukpani born Sport Journalist David Oku’s submissions has now been nominated in the Aips Sport Media Awards 2020 LONGLIST in the Video (Athlete profile) and Audio (Sports Trax) category.
In a year that witnessed the unprecedented shut down of sporting events across the world, the AIPS Sport Media Awards remained a significant proof that sports media excellence will always prevail even in the face of adversity.
The third edition of the AIPS Sport Media Awards received a record 1871 submissions (in 34 different languages) from 129 different countries with the AIPS EC members and Awards jurors raving about their incredibly high quality. After two months of intense deliberation, AIPS is happy to announce the completion of the first judging stage.
AIPS presented the longlists for each category: Photography Sport Action, Photography Portfolio, Writing Best Column, Writing Best Colour Piece, Video Short Feature, Video Athlete Profile, Video Documentary, Audio, Young Reporters Writing, Young Reporters Photography and Young Reporters Broadcasting.
Five voting stages – The AIPS Sport Media Awards take the process of judging very seriously. Once all submissions were screened by AIPS staff, the first voting stage includes the highest regarded works rated by our panel of specialists and mentors, EC members and Jury members, resulting in a longlist.
The second voting stage, which is exclusively carried out by the EC members (representing 24 different nations), will narrow down the selected works into a shortlist of candidates.
The third and fourth voting stages are carried out by the Jury, 12 respected members from the sport media industry representing the five continents, as they first select the top 10 and then the top 3.
Finally, one day before the ceremony, a final voting stage takes place and the results remain secret until the announcement.
