The Nigeria Senate has fixed Thursday 21st March, 2025 to make a decision on approving the state of emergency declared on Rivers state by president Ahmed Tinubu. The Senate leader Opeyemi Bamidele, recommended that the motion be deferred to the next legislative day, a proposal seconded by Abba Moro, the minority leader.

The affected section of the major pipeline is currently on fire, though the exact cause of the explosion remains unknown at this time.
