The Zenith Labour Party, ZLP has won 15 out of the 17 Local Government Areas in the November 2, 2024 local government election in the state. The Young Progressives Party, YPP won two LGAs – Ugwunagbo and Osisioma Ngwa. Prof. Chima George, the Chairman, Abia State Independent Electoral Commission, announced the results on Saturday night at the ABSIEC headquarters, Umuahia. The Nigeria Labour Congress in Rivers State has threatened to withdraw services if any attempt is made to withhold the state’s monthly allocation. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has been ordered by a federal high court sitting in Abuja not to further release financial allocations to the Rivers state government. The court held that monies from the federation account should not be released to the state pending the passage of a lawful appropriation act by a validly constituted house of assembly.
