The Rotary Club of Umuahia Central on Saturday installed Rotarian Glory Emuchay as her 38th president.
The event took place at Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia, Abia State.
The colourful event had Rotarians from various parts of the country who came to grace the lively and colourful event.
The Rotarians and guests witnessed the traditional protocols of installing the new president of Rotary presidents such as oath taking and the ceremonial handover of all office symbol of authority to Rotarian Emuchay, the new 38th Rotarian president of Umuahia Central.
In an interview with pressmen RTN Glory expressed joy being privilege to lead. She described it as been elated to have the position.
In her words: “I feel elated especially when you have your parents and everyone gracing the occasion. I feel very elevated and I count it as a thing of joy.”
RTN Glory affirmed that she is poised to do a whole lot in her administration which is to last for 9 months.
“We are going to do a lot of service project such as a rotary center which the land for the project is already acquired from the Abia state government.” RTN Glory said.
She also added that there’s a move to partner with the Chinese and French government who will be establishing their institute in Umuahia which will form a record bond between indigeins and the state. She added that the project will form part of record bond between the countries and the states thereby exposing indigeins to having personal relationships with those countries. The budget for the project was said to be pegged at 50 million naira.
RTN Glory also gave other projects lined up in her 9 months tenure of administration as Community economic development which will see to the empowerment of 10 indigent girls and men with economic grant. Others are; basic education and literacy, peace building and conflict prevention workshop for NGO’s, maternal and child health project, disease prevention and treatment, water sanitation and disease. The total sum of the listed projects was said to be 57 million 470,000 naira only.
RTN Glory pleaded for the support of all members of the club to enable succeed in her tenure.
While addressing newsmen during the event, the outgoing president RTN. Eugene Uhuaba, expressed satisfaction while describing RTN Emuchay as a worthy successor. He also informed that been a president of Rotary Club is an opportunity to serve humanity.
Sir Onyii Wamah, former assistant to Abia state governor who is also a Rotarian, expressed joy for the gathering while beckoning others to join the Rotary Club and serve humanity.
RTN Uhuaba ceremoniously handed over the office insignia and portraits to RTN Glory while reminding her of the importance of each, handed over to her.
RTN. Eugene Uhuaba wished her well in her administration and also thanked all that made his administration a success. He also affirmed that all projected for his administration was achieved.
The local government chairman of Ukwa East, Abia state Hon. Chuks Nwagbara was also on ground to grace the occasion as one of their own attain the height of a president of Rotary Club.
In an interview with pressmen, Hon. Nwagbara said it is a very important day for Ndoki people and he is on ground to show solid support for their daughter.
Speaking further about the importance of RTN Glory becoming the president of Umuahia Central of the Rotary Club, Hon. Nwagbara said the local government has always been partnering with the Rotary Club but the emergence of their daughter will take the relationship to the next level.
The secretary to Abia state government, Hon Barr. Chris Ezem and other dignitaries graced the occasion.
The Ndoki cultural group was also on ground with their cultural face group which graced the occasion.
