Abia Warriors FC currently suffered four straight defeat in the on going NPFL 20/21 league season under the watch of their newly appointed coach, Imam Amapakabo.

David Oku, also known as David-Talks, a sports analyst, an international award winning sports journalist and renowned radio presenter writes on the challenges of Abia warriors FC.

IMAMA AMAPAKABO FACING SACK AT ABIA WARRIORS

The Okrika born tactician hasn’t got going since the celebrations at Rangers in 2016.

A brief spell at Elkanemi Warriors didn’t ring alarm bells for Amapakabo, what followed was a catastrophe in Egypt with the Olympic Eagles.

Now a chance to redeem himself is going south after a disastrous start to the NPFL 20/21 campaign with Abia Warriors suffering four loses in their first four matches – the latest a scandalous defeat to Jigawa Golden Stars in Aba.

To that effect the management of Abia Warriors FC held an emergency meeting on Thursday issuing an ultimatum to win the next three games or face the music.

It is a fact that the technical crew led by Imama has enjoyed the greatest support and cooperation ever given to any crew in the club’s history. That support could be reconsidered with the Umuahia’s club next three games against FC Ifeanyi Ubah (A), MFM FC (H), Lobi Stars (A).

THE ISSUES IMAMA FACES

A team lacking cohesion

Despite doing good business in the off season, the players are yet to show any signs of bonding on the pitch with forwards looking out of depth in games and a midfield lacking imagination.

LESS TIME ON ASTRO TURF

Warriors coach and players have complained severally about not getting the chance to feel at home in Aba.

“We are only allowed to train here once before our matches, the other times we train on grass which hasn’t helped”. Imama lamented.

Again there are allegations of bullying with observers saying Enyimba FC allowed Aba fans to come into the stadium to boo and disrupt Abia Warriors during the Jigawa Golden Stars clash.

OKIGWE STADIUM AN OPTION

With the stadium in Umuahia among those not approved by the League Management Company LMC and out of consideration at the moment Abia Warriors likely option remains the Okigwe Township Stadium if they decide to dump Aba.

Umuahia to Okigwe is a 30 minutes drive these days and with Heartland changing venues to Dan Anyiam Stadium, this campaign leaves a vacancy, but one which would be cost intensive even if Abia Warriors management decide to take such decision.
