Abia State Government is Reconstructing, Rehabilitating and Renovating the health facilities in the state as well as other government facilities to meet up global standard.
The latest development on the activities of Governor Alex Otti gave a new revelation to newsmen on Friday during a tour to Abia State Specialist Hospital , Amanchara in Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State and the Specialist and Diagnostic Centre at Aba road in Umuahia.
The team of pressmen also visited Commissioners Quarters which is undergoing renovation in Umuahia, the state capital.
According to Ferdinand Ekeoma, the Special Adviser Media and Publicity to Governor Alex Otti, the tour is to bring journalists and Abians up to speed on some of the activities of the government since inception of office as promised by governor Alex Otti.
Ekeoma re-emphasized Governor Otti’s Commitment to fully reconstruct and rehabilitate facilities in government institutions to meet acceptable standard.
While witnessing the ongoing work on the health facilities, Ekeoma said the hospitals will be equipped with additional modern facilities which will be very functional and very effective to motivate the workers and make the environment very conducive for those working in the health facilities.
“This is a hospital and must bear the resemblance of a hospital and must possess all that is required for any medical institution to function optimally, that is the vision of Governor Alex Otti.
“That is why on the assumption of office, Governor Alex Otti declared a state of emergency at our health institutions in Abia State. That is why what is happening here is also happening in ABSUTH.” Ekeoma said.

Ekeoma also added that the Specialist and Diagnostic Centre at Aba Road was deteriorating with speed and there was an urgent need to rehabilitate the facilities with the help of the commissioner for Health, Dr Ngozi Okoronwkwo.
CANDIDREPORTERS correspondence on the tour has it on record that massive renovation and rehabilitation was witnessed on both health facilities.
Speaking with newsmen at the medical facility at the Abia State Specialist and Diagnostic Centre at Aba Road, Dr Otti Emeka Obasi the Senior Special Adviser to Governor Otti on Medicals, and Dr Agu Francis, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital took the team of pressmen round the facility to see the level of work done and others in progress. Dr Otti took her time to explain the functions of some of the medical equipment available to run the optometry section of the hospital.
Responding to newsmen on the plans to sustain the efforts of Governor Otti, Dr Agu said decisions and plans are already taken to ensure full compliance and dedication to duty by staff as well as maintenance culture on the available equipment and those expected to arrive. Retraining of staff was also on the arrangement to improve the knowledge of the staff.
Amongst the changes made in the facilities of the building are spacious reception hall and seats for patients, stands with affordable eyeglasses frames, offices, theatre, medical equipment, expanded office space for cashiers, repainting, tiling and reconstruction in some parts to create more space.
Dr Otti also revealed that part of the services the hospital will render to Abians is affordable and quality medical care services.
Dr Agu also revealed that a free eye medical program will commence in the facility on Saturday.
The press team also tour the Commissioners Quarters where massive renovating work is ongoing such as reconstruction, reroofing, painting, flooring, tiling, furnishing, re-wiring and fixing of electrical fittings as well as total electrification of the premises.
