Prof. Uche Ikonne has emerged flag bearer of Abia chapter of the People Democratic Party, PDP Governorship Candidate for 2023 general lection.

Announcing the result at Umuahia Township Stadium, the chairman, Abia PDP gubernatorial primary election committee, Ayodele Fayose said Prof. Ikonne scored total of 468 votes to beat his distant rivals Lucky Igbokwe who scored 45.
