The Commander 14 Brigade Nigerian Army Brigadier General NJ Edet commenced operational tour of Units under his command with 143 Rangers Battalion Ovim on Wednesday 26 July 2023 and enjoined troops to be professional at all times.

The Commander was received by the Commanding Officer 143 Rangers Battalion Ovim, Lieutenant Colonel TAO Okundaye during the visit, the Unit Commander briefed General Edet on the activities of the Battalion.

While in 144 Battalion rear Asa on Friday 28 July 2023, he was received by the Commanding Officer rear Major Yahaya Mohammed and was briefed on the activities of the unit.

Also on Friday 28 July 2023, in 145 Battalion rear, the Commander was received and briefed by the rear Commanding Officer, Major Joshua Inuwa after presentation of quarter guard at the unit Forward Operating Base Umuahia.

Addressing troops during the visit, the Commander cautioned troops on the use of social media, stating that any personnel under his watch that violate the social media policy of the Armed Forces will be sanctioned accordingly.

Commander reiterated the need to remain professional as soldiers in their general conducts as good ambassadors of the Nigerian Army, adding that under his watch he will not spare anyone who is unprofessional in his place of duty no matter your status.

He however, enjoined them to always be at alert to be alive and remain vigilant against emerging threats and to be their brother’s keeper at all times.

The Commander also urged them to decisively deal with criminals elements in the area generally to make Abia and it’s environs a place worthy to stay.

General Edet called on all to ensure good and cordial relationship with their host communities at all times in order to get credible and reliable information that will assist in the successes of the operations in the region.

General Edet also specified the importance of having a robust synergy with other security agencies for peace to strive in Abia State and its surrounding States.

In another development, on Thursday 27 July 2023, the Brigade Commander in company of the Commissioner of Police and State Security Services accompanied the Executive Governor Dr Alex otti to Aria-Aria market where suspected criminals known as IPOB/ESN killed two Police men while on duty in Aba, to reassure the locals of their safety but cautioned all to the law abiding citizens at all times, not to take laws into their hands as measures will be put in place to arrest the perpetrators and to make Abia great.

Furthermore, on Wednesday 26 July 2023, Dr Alex otti sends delegates of heads of security agencies comprising Commander 14 Brigade, Commandant Nigerian Navy College of Account and Finance Owerrita Navy Captain SK Ogogo, representative of the State Security Services Abia State led by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Security, Commander MacDonald Uba (Retired) to assess the rate of criminalities at Cattle Market in Gariki, Lokpanta area in Umuonechi area of the State. The team met with the head and stakeholders of the market to map out modalities and strategies on how to arrest the situation and give a lasting solution to the rising rate of criminal activities in the area. The delegates tour round the cattle market general area.

Highlights of the familiarization visit were presentation of quarter guard, briefing by various Unit Commanders, address to troops, tour round the units, presentation of sourvenir and group photographers.
