Beneficiaries of the free eye surgery outreach sponsored by Prince Nnanyereugo Ikonne have expressed gratitude for the benevolence of the Good Samaritan.

The free eye surgery began on Tuesday at the Anya Specialist Eye Clinic in Umuahia, the Abia State capital as beneficiaries are yet to meet the sponsor of surgery.

According to a press statement from Prince Nnanyereugo Ikonne, the gesture was done as part of the activities rolled out to mark his 35th birthday.

Some beneficiaries who spoke with newsmen after the surgery affirmed that they don’t even know the sponsor of the surgery but prayed God to continue to bless him while also requesting for long life and prosperity as he clocks a new age.

According to P.C Otuechere one of the aged beneficiary of the free eye surgery outreach from Umuokpara community in Umuahia South local government area of Abia state, said the gesture was highly appreciated as he narrates how long he has been battling with poor sight.

Otuechere revealed that his poor sight condition started twenty years ago which he simply described as ‘not seeing printed letters very well’ as he has made efforts to attend different medical outreach to find solutions but all yielded no positive results in his vision quality.

In his words: ‘I have been patronizing eye clinics and they gave me eye glasses but no positive results especially four months ago when the glasses totally stopped working.

‘Recently I started seeing whitish images and gradually I couldn’t see anything, I gave up going to the hospital as my children insisted but I refused because I have concluded that as an old man, death will soon come so let me die with it because I have seen people who accepted such surgery but they ended up not getting positive result or even survive from the surgery. This time around, people advised me to give Doctor Anya for a trial as he was adjudged to be the best eye doctor in Umuahia.’

Otuechere also added that he just came out from the theatre after the second surgery while attesting that after the first surgery also done by Doctor Anya, he noticed great improvement in his vision.
