A High Court in Port Harcourt has barred the Nigerian Police and the Department of State Services from arresting or summoning the Chief of Staff to the suspended state governor, Edison Ehie over allegations made by the former Rivers Head of Service, Dr. George Nwaeke. Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja has barred parties in the suit filed by suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, and three others from granting press interviews on issues relating to the case. Nyako issued the order on Friday following a complaint by Kehinde Ogunwumiju (SAN), a lawyer to Akpabio, that the plaintiff was moving from one television house to another, granting press interviews on issues relating to her case, currently pending before the court. The Supreme Court has set aside the judgment of the Court of Appeal, in Abuja, that recognized Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP). CANDID REPORTERS reports that the Supreme Court in a unanimous judgment, on Friday, by a five-member panel, held that the Court of Appeal lacked the jurisdiction to pronounce Abure the national chairman of the LP having earlier found that the substance of the case was about the party’s leadership. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has faulted the petition seeking to recall Natasha Akpoti-Uduahan, senator representing Kogi central, the commission cited failure to meet the constitutional requirements. INEC in a statement on Thursday cited section 69(a) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which outlines the conditions for recalling a lawmaker, noting that the petition failed to fulfill these requirements.
