Annie’s Hope Foundation, a non governmental humanitarian organization on Saturday hosted widows from the 17 local government areas of Abia State.

The event was held at the Micheal Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia, Abia State.

During the event, tagged “Praise Thanksgiving Palliative Program” , the CEO of Annie’s Foundation,
Ambassador Rev. Dr Annie Oni who is also a widow revealed that the foundation was set up to empower the less privileged in various communities in the state, which also focuses on widows who have nobody to help them.

The event was massively entertaining as it was vibrantly powered by a live Christian band which echoed Christian praises and worship songs that ignited and activated the widows into enthusiastic praise and worship mode. Prayers were also said and words of hope and encouragement were given by Dr Annie and other invited guests before the palliatives were shared to the widows.

While also speaking with newsmen, Dr Annie also revealed that the event is also to give thanks and praise to God for Abians victory during the 2023 gubernatorial election and the verdict of the supreme court which affirmed the government of Governor Alex Otti.

Dr Annie also added that; “The New Abia” is here to stay, the widows and other Abians both in the diaspora cried and prayed to God to rescue Abia and usher in a government to rescue Abians.

Dr Annie also added that she is doing the much she could for the widows and urged all well meaning Abians to contribute their quota to the needy in the society.

Prayers were also said during the event which was a request for God to enable governor Alex Otti and the first lady to do more for Abians.

She also called on every Abian both home and diaspora to contribute his or her quota to the development of the state and make the “New Abia Possible.”

She also advised all the widows to keep hope alive by supporting the ruling government through prayers for they have prayed and God has heard their prayers.

Ferdinand Ekeoma, Special Adviser on Media And Publicity who attended the event described the event as “a very commendable venture because it is an initiative to dry the tears of the widows.”

He commended Dr Annie for her personal effort to put smiles on the faces of the widows. Ekeoma also hinted that the Annie’s Foundation and its palliative initiative for the widows has no bearing with the Abia State government as he also acknowledged that the widows contributed to the emergency of the new administration in Abia through their prayers for a new Abia. He also added that Governor Alex Otti is marshaling out all necessary opportunities to support women and widows in the state.

Grace Ogbonnaya, a widow for 23 years from Ohafia local government area of Abia state is a beneficiary of the palliative program, she thanked Dr Annie for her kind gesture which she described as “putting smiles on our faces” and prayed for more blessings for her to be able to sustain the vision of the Annie’s Hope Foundation.

Mrs Margaret Uche also a widow for over 34 years expressed happiness for being part of the event and prayed for God’s favor to enable Dr Annie to continue the good work.

“She has encouraged me more to do more because I have been in the field for my fellow women.” Mrs. Margaret added.

The women leader for the widows, Dame Victoria Asamogha also spoke to newsmen and added that their prayers were heard for “The New Abia” to come to reality by making the ruling party and governor come to fruition as well as the supreme court victory.
