In a rare show of an uncommon gratitude, Engr Chinedu Onyeizu, the Labour Party’s senatorial candidate for Abia South, has thanked his teeming supporters for their show of love and support before, during and after the February 25 senatorial election which, according to him, every honest person knows he won.

In an emotion-laden speech, which reads in part, Onyeizu said, ‘In the sight of man, we have come to the end of the road, but God remains God. We won the battle, but were denied the trophy. Together with you, we showed resilience, sincerity of purpose and the will to get back what was truly ours. It was not just my battle. It was a battle for the youths and the survival of true democracy.”

Onyeizu said that contrary to the opinion out there, he never had an interest in fighting Abaribe, because he is his elder brother and an elder-statesman. He said his fight had always been against the INEC and the judiciary. In one of his previous speeches, he said, “the greatest threat to democracy in Nigeria are INEC and the judiciary. When a politician rigs an election and then tells Nigerians to go to court because he is wielding influence with taxpayers money, it means that little hope is left in our democracy.’

In his reaction, he further said, ‘However, I can’t thank you enough for believing in me, for believing in a youth, for believing that we needed a fresh breath. I can’t thank you enough for remaining committed to our cause till the end. Not even intimidation, threats to our lives, or attempts to unduly influence us, could stop us. We moved like an unstoppable train and before their very eyes, we achieved what they never believed could be achieved”

Onyeizu took the opportunity to also thank the Governor, Dr Alex Otti, reaffirming his loyalty and commitment to the success of his administration.

In what could be described as a rare show of uncommon gratitude, Engr Onyeizu has made known his plans to throw a huge party for his supporters as a way of thanking them. According to him, he would not let their sacrifices go unappreciated. It is expected that he would announce the date soon.
