Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji was born on December 25, 1970 to the family of a renowned civil servant turned politician, former Governor of Abia State and former Senator representing Abia Central at the National Assembly, His Excellency, Theodore Ahamefule Orji and Chief Mrs Mercy Odochi Orji of Amaokwe in Ugba village, Ugba Autonomous Community in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State.
The Speaker Emeritus attended Orji Town Primary School, Owerri between 1976 and 1982, from where he proceeded to Government Secondary School, Owerri, between 1982 and 1987.
He gained admission to the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering in 1996.
Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji was the 11th Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, in office between June 2019 and June 2023.
He was first elected as the Lawmaker representing Umuahia Central State Constituency in 2015, when he served as the Majority Leader for four years, and got re-elected at the 2019 general elections on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.
As Speaker, he showed exemplary leadership qualities and demonstrated exceptional legislative leadership, fostering unity among members, strengthening democratic institutions, and championing policies that advanced the development and welfare of the people. Beyond the Chamber, Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji earned profound respect for his humility, accessibility, and dedication to the progress of his constituents and state at large.
Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji is a Fellow of the Nigeria Society of Engineers (FNSE), the umbrella organization for the Engineering Profession in Nigeria, he is also a Fellow of Nigeria Institution of Civil Engineers (FNICE), and Fellow of the Nigerian Institution of Transport and Highway Engineers (FNITHE), an award he received recently.
Aside his political accomplishments, Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji is a Knight of the Anglican Communion, an honour that reflects his devotion to the service of God, commitment to the growth of the church, and exemplary Christian virtues.
Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji was honoured with The Sun Public Service Award 2020 award, by The Sun Publishing Ltd, publishers of The Daily Sun Newspapers for touching lives.
The Most Outstanding Speaker of the year 2021 by publishers of Champion Newspaper Limited, for his sterling leadership qualities and service to the people.
Rt Hon Chinedum E. Orji FNSE, FNICE, FNITHE, has carved a niche for himself as a philanthropist extraordinaire who touches the lives of the people through his numerous philanthropic interventions and items that directly touched the lives of the people through his Direct Touch Initiative which also saw to the empowerment of many Abians particularly the youth and women through skills acquisition for which he has received many awards and commendations.
He is happily married and the marriage blessed with kids.
