Gift Worlu, Rivers State Commissioner for Housing, Professor Prince Chinedu Mmom, the state Commissioner for Education and Ben-Golden Chioma, Community for Environment tendered their resignation to exit the cabinet of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

All three commissioners tendered their resignation on Wednesday and believed they are known loyalist of former governor Nyesom Wike.

In the resignation letter addressed to Governor Fubara, through the Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo, Worlu cited a “toxic” work environment, as well as the alleged attempt to merge the executive and legislative arms of government as his reason for resignation.

His letter states, “I write to formally resign my appointment as the Honourable Commissioner of Housing.

“One of the most difficult decision in my life yet, it is precipitated by the toxic atmosphere that has characterised our working relationship, especially the smouldering arbitrariness of decisions and actions, induding the attempt to fuse the executive and legislative arms of government in Rivers State.

“I thank you for the opportunity to serve in your government and wish you the best as you continue to steer the ship of state.

”Kindly accept assurances of my esteemed regards.”

Professor Mmom on his part too referenced a “toxic” working environment as his reason for resignation, stating that such an environment would make it impossible to achieve “my set targets for the Education sector in the State.”

The letter read, “It is a truism that a calm, safe and friendly environment would stimulate efficient service delivery and enhanced productivity.

“It is however unfortunate to note that my current work space has become toxic and no longer guarantees a favourable environment to enable me realize my set targets for the Education sector in the State.

“There is loss of trust, animosity and sharp division among colleagues in the same cabinet which is unhealthy and very unfortunate.

“I want to thank Your Excellency for the opportunity to serve in your cabinet and wish your administration well.

“Kindly accept the assurances of my esteemed regards.”

Moments later, Chioma forwarded his matter, dated same 15th May, noted that his reason for resigning is because of the political crisis in the state.

He said: “I hereby tender my resignation as the Hon. Commission for Environment, Rivers State on this day the 15th May, 2024.
