Mascot Uzor Kalu, the Abia gubernatorial candidate of the Action Peoples Party (APP) has said that he will ensure creation of 40,000 jobs within four years if elected as the next governor of Abia state.
The former Abia Chief of Staff on Friday gave the affirmation in a chat with newsmen in Umuahia.
He said part of his desire to become Abia governor is to create 10,000 jobs each year of his four year administration to address unemployment rate in the state with the aim of getting unemployed youths out of the streets amongst whom are graduates.
He also added that he is into politics with the mindset of a businessman which prompted his desire to pen down 26 “Highlights of App’ Actionable Policies and Programs” .
Speaking about the state of road infrastructure in Aba, the commercial hub of Abia state, Mascot said good drainage system in Aba will ensure durability of the roads. He also affirmed that poor drainage system gave rise to the recent lost of goods at the Ariaria international market during the recent heavy down pour. He cited Port Harcourt road in Aba as a major infrastructure that has suffered set back over the years. He assured that if elected in 2023, he will fix the the roads and other listed highlights of actionable policies planned for his administration as many more will be achieved.
On payment of workers salary, He promised that workers will be paid between 25th and 29th of every month as well as ensuring proper equipping of the education sector in the state for better performance of the teachers for graduating of sound students.
Speaking on the rumoured political affiliation and support from Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, his elder brother, Mascot said he only gets financial supports from business friends and some family members.
In his words: “There’s nothing else I can say to those who wants to believe and not to. I haven’t received sponsorship from anybody except from one or two private friends, business friends who felt I was doing well, on their own they gave me a token, apart from my mother and my other brother except from Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu. The funds am using to run my election campaigns are readily prepared”.
Mascot said no one should doubt his capability to govern Abia very well.
In his own words: “No body should doubt my capability because I know how to do the work. Anybody who has worked as chief of staff for 3 to 4 years is capable of being a governor because there’s nothing the governor sees that the chief of staff doesn’t see.”
In the area of sports, Mascot assured that he will ensure that more Abians will be motivated to join Enyimba football club and adequate funding will be provided for the team to bounce back to limelights.
On revenue generation, Mascot said massive investment will be made to mop up revenue and cited tourism as one point of focus. He said he will harnesses the opportunity to invest in the Azumini Blue River in Ukwa East local government area of Abia state.and other tourist attraction centers in the state.
The Deputy guber candidate, Prof Osondu Akomas on his part appealed to Abians to vote for all the candidates of the APP for good governance.
