Independence Day Message from Hon Chinasa

My beloved people of Bende, fellow Abians, and Nigerians at large,

Today, as our great nation clocks 65 years of independence, we pause to reflect not just on how far we have come, but also on the journey that still lies ahead.

For six and a half decades, Nigeria has weathered storms—political turbulence, economic upheavals, security challenges—yet, like the resilient eagle on our coat of arms, we have spread our wings and soared. We have witnessed progress in education, science, technology, and democracy. Our people have excelled in arts, culture, and enterprise across the globe, making Nigeria’s green and white flag a proud symbol of hope.

But even as we celebrate, we must be honest with ourselves: our nation faces daunting challenges. The economy has stretched families to their limits, insecurity has stolen peace from many communities, and poor infrastructure has slowed our pace of development. These realities are not distant—they affect us here in Bende, in Abia, and in every corner of our nation.

Yet, within these challenges lies opportunity for renewal. Today, I urge us not to despair, but to rise with faith in a brighter tomorrow. Nigeria at 65 must be a Nigeria of shared prosperity, where hard work is rewarded, where justice reigns, and where our children can dream without limits.

In Abia, we are already witnessing the dawn of such a future under the purposeful and people-focused leadership of His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR. From bold reforms in governance to life-changing interventions in infrastructure, education, and healthcare, his administration is proving that good leadership is possible, and that transformation is achievable.

For us in Bende, this is a time to stand united, to lend our voices and hands to support the ongoing efforts of this government. Development is never the task of one man—it is the collective responsibility of all citizens. When we support the right policies, when we embrace accountability, when we choose unity over division, then the Abia—and the Nigeria—of our dreams becomes a reality.

As we hoist our flags and sing the anthem today, let us remember that independence is not just about freedom—it is about responsibility. The responsibility to build, to nurture, and to hand over a stronger nation to the generations that will come after us.

On this 65th Independence Anniversary I call on all Bende sons and daughters, all Abians, and all Nigerians to remain steadfast in hope, resolute in faith, and unshakable in the belief that our best days are still ahead.

Happy Independence Day!
Long live Bende!
Long live Abia State!
Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!

Hon. Iheanyi Frank Chinasa
Chief Liaison Officer
Abia State Liaison Office, Abuja
