Gregory Ibe Foundation Empowers 100 students With 800 Million Naira Worth Scholarship

No fewer than one hundred persons on Tuesday benefitted from the Gregory Iyke Foundation with a Scholarship Award worth 800 million naira.

It was a beehive of activity at the Goodluck Jonathan Auditorium cited at the Gregory University Campus, Uturu, Abia State as a total of 100 students were handed the scholarship Award letters by the university’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Augustine Uwakwe PhD.

The scholarship award was for indigent students to pursue any academic career of their choice.

In his speech before the presentation of the award letters to the beneficiaries, Prof Uwakwe, beckoned on Abians to forget about partisan politics and allow Greg Ibe to develop the state by voting for him as governor in the coming 2023 general election in the state.

Prof Uwakwe also revealed the scholarship given to new students worth 8 million naira. That is a total of about 800 million naira worth a scholarship for the 100 beneficiaries.

Affirming the level of benevolence deposited in Prof Ibe, Prof Uwakwe revealed that three of his children are students of the university who are all also beneficiaries of the scholarship.

Prof Uwakwe urged the beneficiaries of the scholarship “to be grateful to God while being thankful to Prof Gregory Ikechukwu Ibe for his scholarship scheme which has benefitted no fewer than 500 persons since commencement”.

Ambassador Sunday Unubiri, the state secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in his speech said it is the first time his party is witnessing this kind of benevolence in this part of the world . He described Prof Gregory Ikechukwu Ibe as a galaxy of stars to be specially recognized and reckoned with. He also described the vice chancellor of the institution as a blessing to the university.

“One or two of the students studying here will become a galaxy of stars. These children here today will turn out to be the best amongst equals in society”. Unubiri said.

Also present in the event was Longman Emeka Nwachukwu Esq. PhD, the Director General, Gregory Ibe Campaign team. In his speech, he described Prof Gregory as “a man whose name is synonymous with entrepreneurship, the Doyen of human capacity development, an epitome of charity and philanthropy.”

Madumere Amarachi, a beneficiary of the scholarship expressed her joy for the opportunity to be part of the beneficiaries. Amarachi got the scholarship to study optometry at the university. She prayed God to grant Prof Gregory his heart’s desire to be the next governor of Abia State while also remaining grateful for the privilege.

While responding to newsmen on his benevolence, Prof Gregory said the non indigiens of Abia state are also part of the beneficiaries.

In his words: “The son of the chairman of Onions sellers in Ugwunagbor is here with us, their resident in Abia state is important to us. The boy was born at Ugwunagbor, he speaks Igbo and has no other place to go than Ugwunagbor. The Akwa Ibomite is here with us, we encourage them. The widows association, we asked them to send us their list to encourage them. So we did to all the groups we met this year.”
