The Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Dr. Alex Otti has sent his warm felicitations to mothers across the state on the occasion of this year’s Mother’s Day Celebration, describing it as yet another special day to join mother’s in solidarity as they celebrate Mother’s Day.

In a message of goodwill to Abia mothers, Governor Otti described mothers as a Special gift to humanity, and explained that there are too many beautiful virtues which make mothers special.

In his words “Today is yet another beautiful and blessed day to celebrate mothers across the state, because of what they represent in our society and to humanity. Mothers are a special gift with rare endowments and beautiful virtues which include, but not limited to, love, empathy, compassion, peace and loyalty. These virtues which they carry passionately and tenaciously make them special and outstanding at all times, hence it’s always an honourable privilege to celebrate our mothers for the many sacrifices they make regularly for humanity” the Governor stated.

Governor Otti seized the opportunity of this year’s celebration to restate his commitment to creating a safe and conducive environment that would see that mothers in the state are protected at all times, citing the ongoing massive transformation in the health sector, especially the construction of Primary Health Centres across the State, as a visionary initiative that has dealt a massive blow on high Maternal Mortality rate in the state, which has seen the state achieve a major reduction in maternal mortality, with rates dropping from 1,114 to 135 per 100,000 live births.
The Abia Chief Executive disclosed once again that the creation of Ministry of Women Affairs and Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection respectively, is an intentional initiative aimed at ensuring that mothers are not left behind in the present government, and disclosed that there are some well-thought-out policies and programmes being packaged by his government for the good of mothers in the state.
