Abia State Governor, His Excellency Dr. Alex Otti has commiserated with the management of Enyimba FM Aba on the fire incident that engulfed the station last night, 2nd November 2024.
Speaking when he paid an unscheduled visit to see things for himself at the station’s headquarters, No 7 Oron Road, GRA Aba, Governor Otti described the inferno as unfortunate but thanked
God that no life was lost.
“I came to commiserate with the management of the Enyimba fm on the unfortunate fire incident that happened last night.
“We can see that the entire station with other things around it were burnt down. Otti stated.
Governor Otti, who assured that his government would find a way to assist them to ensure that the station comes back on air, urged the management of the radio station to take it easy and not be deterred by the unfortunate incident. He disclosed that his government recently launched a few more emergency vehicles whose responses to emergencies have been very prompt.
The state chief executive stressed on the need for every office to have fire extinguishers in case of emergency, and further advised that people should be careful as they deploy solar panels and ensure by ensuring that the connections are properly done.
“I understand that the fire started from the solar panel. That also means that as we deploy solar we also need to be careful and ensure that the connections are such that this kind of incident wouldn’t happen again.
“Every office should have fire extinguishers while we have also put in a whole lot more resources in the fire service.
“I am happy that they (management of Enyimba) have insurance, and while that is on, we will see how we can offer support for them to get back on their feat as quickly as possible.
“This is an opportunity to advise everyone to be more careful as we are in the ember months getting close to Christmas, the dry season, so fire spreads very easily.”
The Governor was accompanied on the visit by his wife, Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti, some members of the Abia State House of Assembly, the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu among other top government officials while the Station’s Manage, Mr. Michael Oni conducted Governor Otti round the premises.
