An Ekiti State magistrate court has granted human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi N50 million bail in a defamation case legal expert Afe Babalola filed against him.
Rights activist and publisher for Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, revealed this on his X handle today.
He said Mr. Farotimi was granted bail with a surety in the same amount and must provide landed property as collateral. The case has been adjourned to 29th January 2025.
Recall that Mr. Farotimi was arraigned on 4th December for allegedly publishing a book ‘Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System’ where he alleged that Afe Babalola corrupted the judiciary and procured judgements in the Supreme Court. Farotimi pleaded not guilty to all the sixteen count charges and was then remanded in prison custody.
