The Senate has approved President Bola Tinubu’s request to deploy Nigerian troops to the Republic of Benin in support of efforts to restore peace and stability following last weekend’s attempted coup. The Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, has announced a state of emergency across west Africa region. President of the ECOWAS Commission, Omar Touray, made the declaration on Tuesday during the 55th session of the Mediation and Security Council at the ministerial level in Abuja. The meeting was convened in response to a series of coups and failed mutinies affecting countries in the sub-region.
