The Supreme Court has set aside the judgment of the Court of Appeal, in Abuja, that recognized Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP). The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has faulted the petition seeking to recall Natasha Akpoti-Uduahan, senator representing Kogi central, the commission cited failure to meet the constitutional requirements. INEC in a statement on Thursday cited section 69(a) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which outlines the conditions for recalling a lawmaker, noting that the petition failed to fulfill these requirements. The Kogi government has placed a ban on rallies and public gatherings in the state over “credible security reports”. In a statement on Monday, Kingsley Fanwo, commissioner for information, said the move is to prevent any form of security breach that might destabilise the state.
