Hon Obinna Ichita, member representing Aba South Constituency at the Abia state House of Assembly, has gotten affirmation from Abia state High Court, Umuahia on the right to continue exercising his freedom of speech.

Candidreporters.com recalls that Hon Obinna Ichita was sewed by the project coordinator of Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project,  Abia NEWMAP, Engr Izuchukwu Onwughar for character defamation after he queried Abia state government over the utilization of $56.4m meant for the construction of four roads in Aba. Hon Ichita

gave the the roads as port harcourth road, Obohia road, Ohanku road, Ngwa road, Urata road “.

According to the legal counsel of Hon Ichita, Agbaye Peter, he said “the life span of the order is 14 days and after 14 days it dies a natural death. what happened now was that the claimers council stepped out , his time to reply is still running and he is not here. The court has said I cannot stop a citizen from expressing himself as far as what he is saying is the truth. The only way it will amount to something is that if what he said was false.”

Hon Ichita in his response while responding to questions from pressmen said : “I am happy the way the matter went today in court, the court has made it abundantly clear that citizens of this country have fundamental rights of expression. The court has made it clear that It will not be used a against free speech. I think it is a victory for every lover of freedom and democracy.The truth is that they got this money, the $56.4m.”

Hon Ichita also affirmed that one Vitalis Ibano died on the said road. He also revealed that some members of his constituency has been attacked on of the failed road under questioning for rehabilitation.
