Indigenes of Umunenweze Okpualla Community, Okaiuga Nkwoegwu, Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State on Wednesday protested an alleged land grabbing by their alleged ousted traditional ruler and community heads.

The protesters took their protest to the government house, Umuahia, where they described the alleged act by their community heads as a brazen act of lawlessness, impunity and daylight robbery being orchestrated against the people.

The protesters were seen carrying placards of various inscription such as ”Governor Otti come to our rescue”, ”we say no to illegal land grabbers”.

The protesters alleged that Eze Paul Onuigbo Uzuegbu, who they described as a former traditional ruler in conjunction with the village head, Mr Ejikeme Emereuwa conspired with land developers to sell their land with fake documents.

According to Okechukwu, the spokesperson of the protesters, he said despite the removal of the traditional ruler from the throne by the court as pronounced by Hon. Justice O. A. Chijioke who declared his Ezeship null and void on 8th March 2022 in Suit No. HU/59/2015, Mr Paul Onuigbo Uzuegbu continues to parade himself as a paramount ruler of their community.

They alleged that the accused uses thugs and compromised elements to forcefully encroach, grab, sell and donate ancestral lands belonging to their community.

The land in question is located at Umunenweze Okpualla Village in Okaiuga, Nkwoegwu, Umuahia North Local Government. The protesters said the land is the rightful heritage of their people.

The protesters were received and addressed by Senior Special Adviser on Chieftaincy and Local Government Affairs Mrs. Magdalene Ugoanusi. She told the protesters that they have been on the matter before and Obi Aguocha, members representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North /Umuahia South Federal Constituency was assinged on the matter and report to Governor Otti.

She also added that Hon. Aguocha will be contacted and the complaints will be presented to governor Alex Otti as she requested a well written document on the matter. Mrs Magdalene applauded their peaceful conduct of the protest and assured them that the authorities will look into the matter.
