The Abia state police command has responded to the news in some tabloids that the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) was recently attacked.
In a live radio program(Rapid fm)in Umuahia, monitored by candidreporters.com on Friday, the police public relations officer (PPRO) Geoffrey Ogbonna faulted the reports, rather stated that the state CID was never attacked but the policemen on duty at the checkpoint in front of the CID facility was attacked.
In his words; “It is a misconception, the state CID was not attacked, the state CID is a facility, there was no attack on that, rather what happened was that the policemen who were performing stop and search duty in front of the state CID in the evening came under attack. So it was the personnel performing duty in front there that was attacked.”
Geoffrey further hinted that the gunmen who carried out the attack took away three police riffles also leaving the two of the policemen seriously injured and no death recorded.
Geoffrey pleaded with members of the public with any credible information that will help to unravel the identities of the people who were behind the dastardly act as well as recovery of the police firearms to kindly present it to the police for the safety of all citizens.
