The Abia State Government, today, inaugurated a Judicial Panel of Inquiry on the Recovery of Government Properties and Funds belonging to the state.

The panel has five members with Hon Justice Ikwuoma Duruoha-Igwe (Rtd.) as Chairman.

Other members are: Prof Ogwo Ekeoma Ogwo, Prof Ursula Ngozi Akanwa, Mazi Ugochukwu Okoroafor and Rev Father Barr Alex Okonkwo.

The event was held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Umuahia on Tuesday.

In her acceptance speech, Hon. Justice Florence Ikwuoma Duruoha – Igwe (Rtd), described Abia State as one of the “regressive states in Nigeria, chiefly among the reason for the stigma is the dearth of government – driven developmental projects and policies”.

She applauded His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, for setting up the Panel of Inquiry, describing it as the “first step of departure from this negative reputation” and pledged to discharge their duties as quickly as possible to enable Abia State to move ahead and take up it’s “A” position in the ranking of progressive States.

She said, “the essence of the Panel is to find out what really happened to the funds and properties of our State, lay it open and make appropriate recommendation to the Governor”.

She therefore, urged “all persons who may have helpful information, memoranda and petitions to approach the Panel ( in the manner that we shall publish shortly) so that justice shall prevail in this State”.
