Amid the delay in the announcement of the March 18 rescheduled governorship election results, Engr Chinedu Onyeizu, the Labour Party senatorial candidate for Abia South senatorial district, has urged INEC to declare Dr Alex Otti winner of the election.

Baring his mind on the controversies surrounding the collation of the results of Obingwa LGA which INEC has suspended for a ‘thorough scrutiny’, the Obingwa-born petroleum engineer asked INEC to collate the results of Obingwa based on the number of the accredited voters as captured by the Biomedical Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines, and declare Dr Alex Otti winner, having scored the highest number of the valid votes cast, and has also satisfied the 25 percent spread in more than two-thirds of the local government areas.

It would be recalled that in the sixteen local government areas where the results have already been declared, Dr Alex Otti is leading with 94,030 votes, having polled a total of 172,587 votes, while his closest rival (candidate of the PDP), is trailing with 78,567 votes.

Chinedu Onyeizu took the opportunity to reassure the Abia South constituents the machinery has been put in full motion to reclaim the mandate of the Labour Party senatorial district which was fraudulently taken. According to him, ‘the joy of Abia South will only be complete when Dr Alex Otti is declared the governor-elect, and Chinedu Onyeizu’s mandate is restored.’
