The Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, earlier today, April 4, 2025, received with excitement the judgement of the Supreme Court of Nigeria which sacked the Julius Abure led National Working Committee of Labour Party, paving the way for the return of peace, unity and order in the party.

Governor Otti said the leadership of the party has been vindicated by the Supreme Court judgement which rightly held that Abure and his NWC had since “outlived their tenure” which informed the establishment of the Senator Nenadi Usman-led National Caretaker Committee in Umuahia the Abia State Capital in 2024.

According to the Governor “I’m not just happy with the judgement, I also celebrate that the highest court in the land has vindicated our position that the tenure of the Abure-led National Working Committee had since expired.
This sound judgement by the Supreme Court was the basis for our decision to set up the National Caretaker Committee led by Distinguished Senators Esther Nenadi Usman as Chairman and Darlington Nwokocha as secretary” he said.

Governor Otti added that the vision behind the setting up of the committee was to foster peace and unity, while strengthening the party to consolidate on the gains made in the last election, assuring that he and other leaders of the party would ensure that the party is reformed at all levels to become a more formidable political platform with the requisite structures and democratic credentials to offer effective and people-oriented leadership.

Governor Otti commended the Supreme Court for its sound judgement which didn’t just meet the popular expectations of genuine Labour Party members in particular, and Nigerians in general, but one that would contribute in deepening democracy and sustaining good governance.

The Abia Chief Executive commended all those who kept faith and remained calm and peaceful while the battle for the soul of the party lasted, including the NLC, TUC, Party Stakeholders and supporters and all men and women of good conscience across the nation.

Finally, Governor Otti called on the former national officers of the party to join hands with the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the National Caretaker Committee (NCC) of the party to move the party forward, assuring that he and other leaders of the party are committed to building an all-inclusive party devoid of discrimination and favoritism.
