Put Nigeria First Or Step Aside’ — Dr. Uche Ogah To Political Leaders

June 12 stands as more than just a date on the calendar — it is a powerful emblem of Nigeria’s enduring struggle for true Democracy. It recalls that Historic day in 1993 when Nigerians transcended ethnic, religious, and regional lines to VOTE in what remains the freest and fairest election in the Country’s HISTORY.

The presumed winner, Chief M.K.O. Abiola, became a beacon of Hope for a united and progressive Nigeria. Though his mandate was tragically annulled, the democratic Spirit it awakened proved unstoppable, eventually ushering in civilian rule in 1999. Recognizing June 12 as Democracy Day is therefore not just a correction of HISTORY but a Tribute to the indomitable will of Nigerians who dared to envision a better nation.

Speaking on this year’s Democracy Day, the Doyen of Abia Rejoice, renowned industrialist and a purposeful Political Leader, DR. UCHE OGAH, described June 12 as “a mirror through which Nigeria must continually assess the strength and sincerity of her democratic journey.” For DR. OGAH, Democracy goes beyond the ritual of elections — it is about justice, equity, and equal opportunity for every Citizen. He passionately called on Leaders to put Nigeria first or step aside, warning that the Nation cannot move forward if those entrusted with Power continue to serve themselves rather than the people.

“Let June 12 remind us,” he declared, “that the true Power of Democracy lies not in the corridors of Power, but in the collective will and voice of the people.” Urging Nigerians to rise above division and recommit to Unity, he emphasized that Democracy Day should not be a mere ceremonial observance, but a day of deep reflection — a time to honor both the famous and forgotten heroes who paved the path with courage and sacrifice.

Happy Democracy Day Fellow Citizens.
