Police Arrests Two Over Alleged Homosexual Activity, Declares One Wanted

The Nigeria Police Command, Federal Capital Territory(FCT) has arrested two men over an alleged homosexual activity at an undisclosed Hotel in Àbuja.

The arrest was effected on December.2, 2024 following a tip of information from a credible source who wants to remain anonymous.

According to a press release by the FCT Police Commissioner, Babaji Sunday, Kelvin Ozoede, aged 30 and Chibuzor Nze aged 33 were caught in the act when the hotel was raided by the police.

According to Babaji, during the preliminary interrogation, the suspects confessed to having another partner who indulged in the said act, identified as Jacob Enahoro, aged 29.

Babaji also disclosed that there’s already a manhunt for Jacob Enahoro for questioning, on the alleged act.

Nigeria prohibits Same-Sex Marriage. The bill was signed into law on January 7, 2014, by President Goodluck Jonathan.

The law criminalizes public displays of affection between same-sex couples and restricts the work of organizations defending gay people and their rights.

The law imposes a 14-year prison sentence on anyone who enters into a same-sex marriage contract or civil union and a 10-year sentence on individuals or groups, including religious leaders, who “witness, abet, and aid the solemnization of a same-sex marriage or union.” It imposes a 10-year prison sentence on those who “directly or indirectly make [a] public show of [a] same-sex amorous relationship” and anyone who “registers, operates, or participates in gay clubs, societies, and organizations,” including supporters of those groups.
