Indigenes of Nkwoachara autonomous community in Ohuhu, Umuahia north local government area of Abia State has called on Governor Alex Otti to intervene in the traditional stool tussle in Nkwoachara autonomous community to avert bloodshed.
A large number of indigenes from the community on Wednesday embarked on a peaceful protest at the Umuahia north secretariat, calling on Governor Otti’s intervention on the matter to avoid the unpresidented.
The peaceful protesters were seen chatting songs of disapproval, against the plebiscite of the accused, Kwandu Onuoha, popularly known as Bishop, who was said has already converged with his supporters at the same Umuahia north local government secretariat waiting the alleged endorsement of the Mayor of Umuahia north local government area.
The protesters were seen displaying placards of inscriptions such as; “No plebiscite, please Governor Alex Otti intervene in Nkwoachara autonomous community to avert blood shed.”
“No plebiscite, Nkwoachara people do not want another Eze Elect other than High Chief Mac I. Okwah for Nkwoachara autonomous community.” “No plebiscite, Bishop Kwandu Onuoha is from Umumgborie in Umuire Opara Na Nkaru Awa autonomous community and cannot come to rule us in our own Nkwoachara autonomous community.”
Speaking to newsmen about the clash of interest on the traditional stool of Nkwoachara autonomous community, High Chief Christopher Onualuwa Okwah, the village head of Umuyota said they’re the rightfully people to ascend the throne following the demise of the previous traditional ruler of Nkwoachara autonomous community.
In his words; “These people claim that the traditional stool belongs to them, they are owning false claims. Kwandu Onuoha, alias Bishop is not an indigene of Nkwoachara autonomous community. He’s from
Opara na nkaru autonomous community. Now that Eze Okezie is late, they came from nowhere to claim where they do not belong. We said no because we don’t sell our traditional stool to strangers. Dr. Mac Ihenemandu Okwah is our Eze Elect.”
The protesters unanimously frowned at the alleged plan by High Chief Victor Ikeji, the Mayor of Umuahia north local government area to welcome Kwandu Onuoha.
“The government is doing a plebiscite from intruders who came from Opara na nkaru to contest the Eze-ship title from Nkwoachara whereas they are not indigenes of Nkwoachara.
As far as Nkwoachara people are concerned, we are not in competition with anyone, we have an Eze-elect and he’s High Chief Mac Ihemenadu.
The protesters also narrated several efforts made to draw the government’s attention to planned deal to take over their traditional stool.
According to Chukwudike Nwoko, the publicity secretary of Nkwoachara action committee and youth chairman emeritus, Amauhie, he said ; “before now, we have made many efforts by writing to the Mayor of Umuahia North, we have also written to the governor, we have even made radio announcements about the matter. We the Nkwoachara people say no, to any form of plebiscite.”
The woman leader of Nkwoachara autonomous community, Mrs Eunice Victor Ikwegbu, pleaded with the government to ensure that their traditional right is not taken away from them.
“They are from the Opara na nkaru autonomous community, we are from Nkwoachara, we are pleading with the government to use their powers to ensure that our traditional right is not taken from us.
