Sequel to the recent Supreme Court judgement that put an end to the reign of Julius Abure as the national chairman of Labour Party, Governor Alex Otti of Abia State on Tuesday joined other leaders to hold an emergency National Executive Council meeting of the party in Abuja.
Held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, the meeting attracted major stakeholders, including Abia State Deputy Governor, Engr Ikechukwu Emetu, the 2023 Presidential Candidate of the party Peter Obi, Vice Presidential Candidate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, National Caretaker Committee Chairman, Senator Esther Nenadi Usman, her Secretary, Senator Darlington Nwokocha, Senator Victor Ume, and prominent Governorship Candidates of Labour Party.
Speakers at the meeting were led by Governor Otti to affirm the resolve of leveraging the Supreme Court judgement of April 4 to re-jig and relaunch the Labour Party as a major national opposition platform to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Subsequently, an indication that the party had moved on after the sack of the Abure led NEC was given by the submission of a Certified True Copy of the Supreme Court judgement and the list of the Senator Nenadi Usman Caretaker Committee to the Independent National Electoral Commission.
