HOPE BEYOND FEES: Dogo Foundation Sustains Educational Access for Bende Students

When registration for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) opened nationwide, many Nigerian families once again faced the financial demands that often accompany the pursuit of higher education. In Bende Federal Constituency, however, what could have been a season of uncertainty became a moment of renewed hope.

In a significant demonstration of educational support, Hon. Iheanyi Frank Chinasa facilitated the free registration of numerous prospective candidates for the 2026 UTME. The initiative, carried out through the Dogo Foundation — a non-governmental organization dedicated to community development and human capital advancement — removed a major financial barrier for many households across the constituency.

The sponsorship covered the full UTME registration process, ensuring that deserving students were not denied the opportunity to sit for one of Nigeria’s most pivotal academic examinations due to economic constraints. For many families grappling with rising living costs, the intervention came as timely relief and reassurance.

Education stakeholders within Bende have praised the initiative as both impactful and uncommon. Mrs. Christiana Cherish Mba, School Administrator of Cherish Intellectual Academy, Nkpa, Bende LGA, whose students benefited from the sponsorship, described the support as a morale booster. According to her, beyond easing financial strain, the gesture strengthened students’ confidence and renewed their belief that their aspirations are valid and achievable.

This intervention is not an isolated effort. In 2025, the Dogo Foundation sponsored the UTME registration of about 500 students across Bende Federal Constituency, reinforcing its commitment to expanding access to tertiary education. That earlier effort set a precedent for sustained educational intervention and demonstrated a long-term strategy rather than a one-off gesture.

Beyond examination sponsorships, the Foundation has maintained a consistent presence in the community through academic assistance, youth empowerment initiatives, healthcare support, and grassroots development programs. In late 2025, it undertook an outreach across schools in Bende, distributing writing materials in support of the education reform agenda of Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, Governor of Abia State.

Policy observers note that interventions of this nature complement ongoing state-level efforts to broaden access to quality education and reduce structural barriers that hinder student progression. By directly addressing the cost burden of critical examinations, the Foundation reinforces the principle that access to opportunity should not be dictated by economic circumstance.

As the 2026 UTME approaches, the sponsored candidates will enter examination halls not only registered and prepared, but encouraged by tangible community support. In a time when leadership is increasingly assessed by measurable impact, the Dogo Foundation’s sustained UTME sponsorship initiative stands as a clear example of service translated into opportunity.
