Hon. Uguru Uduma Petitions Police Over Kidnapping, Torture, Ransom in Ohafia

A fresh wave of outrage has swept across Ohafia Local Government Area following a disturbing petition filed by Hon. Uguru Uduma, who alleged that he was kidnapped, tortured, extorted and threatened with death by a group of young men who claimed to be acting under the protection of the Abia State Deputy Governor, Chief Ikechi Emetu.

In the petition dated November 14, 2025, and addressed to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 9 Headquarters, Umuahia, Hon. Uduma’s legal representatives, Anaga Kalu Anaga & Associates, narrated a chilling account of what they described as “acts of kidnapping, human torture and threats to life.”

According to the petition, the incident occurred on November 6 along the Amaekpu–Okagwe Road, where a group led by Chidi Igu Uduma, Eke Daniel Urum, Ulu Nkata, Okorie Olugu, Ochu Kalu Agwu, Okpo Leonard, and others allegedly ambushed Hon. Uduma while armed with dangerous weapons.

He was forcefully taken to a hideout in Amaekpu where, for several hours, he was beaten with sticks, punched, humiliated and filmed by his attackers. The video was later circulated online and has since gone viral.

The attackers reportedly accused Hon. Uduma of insulting a councillor, Eke Daniel Urum, who represents their ward. The petition alleges that throughout the torture, the group repeatedly boasted that they enjoyed the protection of Deputy Governor Ikechi Emetu, insisting that “no authority, including the police, can stop them.”

Hon. Uduma claimed he managed to place a distress call to the Deputy Governor while still in captivity, explaining the torment he was undergoing. Shockingly, according to the petition, the Deputy Governor “refused to intervene” and allegedly switched off his phone after listening.

A second call to the community’s traditional ruler, HRH Ezie Odum Amogu, led to another attempt to reach the Deputy Governor — but the torture reportedly continued.

The gang allegedly demanded a ransom of ₦100,000, which was eventually paid before Hon. Uduma was released. Since then, his family has allegedly continued to receive threats from the same group, leaving them in fear for their lives.

The petition urged the AIG Zone 9 to launch an immediate investigation into the alleged crimes and bring all those involved — including those who may have backed the suspects — to justice.

As the allegations continue to generate anger and discussion across Ohafia and beyond, residents are demanding swift police action to prevent further breakdown of law and order.
