Former Abia State House of Assembly member, Hon. Chukwudi Apugo has decamped from the African Democratic Party (ADC) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Hon. Apugo made the declaration on Sunday at Nkata Ibeku, Umuahia Abia State during the visit of the Abia State APC party stakeholders and executives who came on a mission to convince him to join the APC.
The event was witnessed by some Abia APC Chieftains and supporters of Hon. Chukwudi Apugo.
The Abia APC Chairman, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu, Emma Trumps Eke, DG Benjamin Kalu Foundation and Chief Charles Ogbonna led the APC executives to the visit.
During the event, Chief Charles Ogbonna said the aim of the visit is to bring back political gladiators to one fold for formidable opposition ahead of the 2027 election.
While convincing Chukwudi Apugo on the gains of joining the APC, Chief Ogbonna said: “You cannot be outside, you must be inside, that’s why we’re here today. To come and bring back our sheep who has strayed away.”
Chief Ogbonna in a symbolic move, took Hon. Chukwudi by the hand and handed him over to the APC Chairman, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu.
Trumps Eke in his speech added his voice to that of Chief Charles Ogbonna, asking Chukwudi Apugo to come back to the APC.
In the speech of Hon. Chijioke Chukwu, he emphasized that bringing Chukwudi Apugo back to the APC is personal to him. He also added that Chukwudi Apugo is a force that one shouldn’t fail to recognize.
Hon. Chukwu emphasized that all that Hon. Apugo needs politically is within the APC and as a party, they will ensure that what is important to Chukwudi Apugo is what they will provide for him to come back to the APC.
The Abia APC Chairman also pointed out that the APC is the political party to be as other political parties in the country are in crisis as the APC is making frantic efforts to connect Abia State to become APC state.
Hon. Apugo in his acceptance speech after accepting the broom, a symbol of the APC from the Chairman said despite his father’s history with the APC, he is ready to move the APC from its present level to the next.
Chukwudi however clarified that nobody in the party should see him as a threat that would demand for all the ward executives of the APC, but insisted that they should work as a team.
Chukwudi also frowned against party hypocrisy which he said is not part of his personality as loyalty remains his style of politics.
”I don’t believe in being in a political party today and join another in the night”. Hon. Chukwudi Apugo said.
While making public his support for the administration of president Tinubu, he also recognized the role of Rt. Hon. Benjamin kalu as he assured total loyalty and support for APC.
“Because of Benjamin kalu, I will still support President Bola Tinubu in 2027.” Hon. Chukwudi Apugo added.
