The bill seeks to amend the 1999 Constitution to create Ikwuano North and Ikwuano South Local Government Areas from the existing Ikwuano LGA in Abia State has passed first reading in the chambers of the federal house of representatives.
The bill sponsored by Hon. Obi Aguocha member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency of Abia State presented the bill for consideration.
The bill will proceed to the next legislative stages, including public hearings and debates, before potential passage and constitutional adoption.
Reacting to the development while speaking with newsmen, Hon. Aguocha stated that the creation of the new LGAs will help improve administrative efficiency, promote social inclusion, and stimulate economic growth in Ikwuano communities.
Hon. Aguocha also added that the proposed alteration aims to bring governance closer to the grassroots, ensure balanced development, and enhance effective representation within the region.
