The Chinese government is set to impose a 15 percent tariff on imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and coal from the United States as a countermeasure to U.S. tariffs. The announcement was made by the Ministry of Finance in Beijing on Tuesday. The planned nationwide protest against the recent 50% increase in telecom tariffs by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has been suspended by the pressure group. Recall that the tariff increase was approved by the Federal Government. The federal government has refuted reports that it plans to increase electricity tariffs by 65 percent. Olu Arowolo Verheijen, the special adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Energy, in a statement on Monday stated that the Federal Government remains focused on stabilising the power sector and protecting vulnerable citizens from undue cost burdens.
