The Zenith Labour Party, ZLP has won 15 out of the 17 Local Government Areas in the November 2, 2024 local government election in the state. The Young Progressives Party, YPP won two LGAs – Ugwunagbo and Osisioma Ngwa. Prof. Chima George, the Chairman, Abia State Independent Electoral Commission, announced the results on Saturday night at the ABSIEC headquarters, Umuahia. In his words: “We have fulfilled the duty we were inaugurated on 5th September to carry out. It wasn’t an easy task but we went beyond and above to raise awareness about the election across the state”, he said.

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti today voted in the Local government election held across the 17 LGAs of the State. The Governor casted his vote alongside his wife, Her Excellency, Mrs.Priscila Otti at his Unit 017, Ahiafor, Umuru-Umuehim Nvosi in Isialangwa South LGA at about 12:19pm. The Nigeria Labour Congress in Rivers State has threatened to withdraw services if any attempt is made to withhold the state’s monthly allocation. Rivers State NLC Chairman, Alex Agwanwor, made this known to journalists in Port Harcourt following a meeting of the NLC State Executive Council. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has been ordered by a federal high court sitting in Abuja not to further release financial allocations to the Rivers state government. The court held that monies from the federation account should not be released to the state pending the passage of a lawful appropriation act by a validly constituted house of assembly. CANDID REPORTERS gathered on Tuesday that the suspension is contained in a memo dated October 28, 2024, and signed by Sunday Akande, its national overseer. The Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has summoned some judges over conflicting rulings on political cases in Rivers State.
