A bill to establish a Federal Medical Center in Ikwuano sponsored by the member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency Hon Obi Aguocha has been passed by the House of representatives and currently at the red chambers before it gets a presidential assent.

This bill corresponds with another bill co sponsored by Hon Aguocha, seeking to convert the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture to a conventional University.

When eventually the school is converted to a conventional University to enable it offer diverse courses and also give Abia state a Federal University which the state currently lacks, the currently Federal Medical center will automatically become a Teaching Hospital to service the University’s medical college.

When that is done, there will be a need for a Federal Medical Center in the state, to take assume the mandate of the current Federal Medical Center, and that is what this bill to establish a federal medical center in Ikwuano has already taken care of, in preparation for the future.

Hon Aguocha has continued to place premium on the most important needs of his constituents and in this context, Education and Health has been prioritized.

Speaking to Newsmen recently during the Labour party National Convention, the lawmaker stated thus:

“It breaks my heart to see what Ndi Ikwuano pass through to access proper medical care. You can imagine what the people around the Ariam and borders with Akwaibom pass through. With this, we would have permanently taken care of the healthcare needs within that axis.”

“It is like using one stone to kill tow birds. Once Michael Okpara becomes a conventional federal University and begins to offer courses like Medicine, Law, Nursing etc, it’s a win win for every Abian because it will increase our enrolment capacity, and our children will have access to quality and affordable Education within their homestead. That is what I call empowerment.”

“If I can achieve all that, including my Educational Scholarship Programs, medical assistances, Free Housing for Indigent widows and other projects on my mind, I will be a fulfilled man, those who want to share Keke and motorcycle can continue, that is not my idea of empowering the youths and my constituents”, he concluded.
