Eze Sunday Nwaokoru Nwogu, the traditional ruler of Umuaka Asa Autonomous Community, Ukwa West Local Government area of Abia state has allegedly vended off a Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC-donated transformer for supply of power in the community.
Our sources also alleged that Eze Sunday Nwaokoru Nwogu said he had the authority of the government, to use the proceed to investigate a vandalized armoured cable, rather than comply with the alleged instruction from the government. The millions of Naira from the sale of the transformer was allegedly diverted to install a shrine at a major entrance of Umuaka Nkwor Market, where modern government lockup shop facilities were built for daily commercial activities of the community.
CANDID REPORTERS also gathered that at the installation of the shrine, that was well-attended by more than 20 traditional native doctors in Ukwa West LGA, and beyond, each with “Ofor” – a symbol of deity, glamourised the installation and created panic and chaos, prohibiting villagers, vehicles from Rivers and Bayelsa States, among others, from accessing the road for their various businesses.

A villager who never wanted his name on print, revealed that Eze Nwogu, a young native doctor, who recently returned from Okporo, Imo State, is currently installing shrines for youths to compliment his fetish powers.
According to a villager who is one of his cabinet members, said that the significance of the shrine was to resurrect all the community “dead gods” empowering and energising them with other foreign deities for a central worship in the community.
Another member of the community, Pastor Divine Ebere Elele, who saw the installation as a desecration and denial of freedom of worship narrates;
“A day before the shrine was installed, his town crier informed the community of the unveiling of the persons behind the theft of an armoured cable. There was still another announcement on Friday concerning the exercise.

“When I returned from my prayers at Obehie Central School, I went to him to know if the suspects had been unveiled, he didn’t give me any response.
“When I went to the market square, I saw enough splatter of blood all around the concrete floor. I was led by my spirit to clear out the shrine. I saw a little chick firmly tied to the tree, probably to gradually die there, a tortoise, an earthen clay pot full of unknown substances, on the base of concrete platform, pieces of red and white clothes wrapped around a little tree, feathers of different birds, an old headless knife in between the sticks.”
“It was an embarrassment that the King will deceive the community only to install a shrine in our market place where we come for daily business, he said.
Responding to the selling of the community transformer, he said:
“I saw a hiab truck loading the transformer while his vigilant group escorted the truck to the main road.
“He has no respect for anybody, often threatening life and property of the community. The community didn’t support him legally to get the staff of office. Only three people participate in the plebiscite. He did not participate. Ever since he has been imposing threats. I request a revocation of that staff for peace to reign in the community, he said.

Villagers complain about his highhandedness, creating chaos and prohibiting religious crusades in the community.

Eze Nwogu beside selling off the NDDC-donated power transformer which ran into millions of Naira, had against the community will, sold palm fruits in 2024 and 2025, which equally runs into millions of Naira, yet unaccounted for, while noticeable community infrastructure rot away.
Addressing journalists who covered the community women’s protest, on March 13, 2025, the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Uzor Nwachukwu, said that the Government White Paper on this issue will soon be made public.
The Umuaka Autonomous Community requests the intervention of Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti to investigate these issues for endurable peace.
As rumours go round for a possible human head underneath the shrine’s concrete platform, the community equally requests the state government to excavate the platform for the justification of the allegation.
Meanwhile, efforts made to reach Eze Sunday Nwaokoru Nwogu to comment on the allegation as at the time of filing this report proved abortive but CANDID REPORTERS obtained a public refutal by the president of Umuaka Asa Autonomous Community, Comrade Evans Nwanigwe He said they are allegations championed by “disgruntled individuals and members of discord from the community”. He urged all to work with their traditional ruler for peace in the community.
He described Eze Sunday Nwaokoru Nwogu as “a peace loving monarch that has foster progress in the community which has also led to witness of peace in the community”.
