The Abia State Labour Party Chairman, Peter Azubuike has expressed optimism that the Labour party will have a landslide victory before 2pm election day in the coming 2027 general election in Abia State.

Azubuike expressed the party’s optimism during a press briefing in Umuahia on Monday.

While commending the governance impact of Governor Alex Otti, Azuuike boosted that the love from Abians is an added confidence to maintain Labour party dominance in Abia.

“So today I will tell you that if elections were to be conducted today, before 2 p.m, we would have won our elections. We can take that to the bank. And then one thing we’re enjoying is the love we’re getting from Abians’’ Azubuike said.

While responding to questions from newsmen about the primary election process and otherchallenges of Labour party in the state and national level, Azubuike said while choosing candidates for elective positions in the state, they put into consideration what the party has gone through in terms of challenges and affirmation before adopting the simplest model form of primaries.

In his words: “what we did was to adopt the simplest model primaries, consensus, and then, of course, affirmation. So we did that, and peacefully, candidates emerged, and we’ve also gone further to consolidate on that victory, where, of course, you know, it’s not just one person that will always indicate interest. One person won, all of them also won.”

Responding to the question on the unity of the party as regards the Julius Abure faction of Labour Party which has Ceekay Igara as the gubernatorial candidate, Azubuike said there’s nothing to worry about as he summarized it with a parable.

‘‘Like a snake whose head has been cut off. So the whole body keeps jumping and all of that makes no sense because we know that the head is no longer there. But the normal thing the body of a snake would do is to keep dancing and all of that. We are not so ignorant of the fact that there’s a level of greed and selfishness that people portray that sometimes we wouldn’t know how to deal with. So I will leave it to them to actually finish displaying their greed. But let me be honest to you, there’s no worries at all.” Azubuike said.

Azubuike also affirmed that the Labour Party is one big family that is intact and well recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

“But for now, the Labour Party is one big family. It’s intact, ranging from the recognition of the INEC and all of that.” Azuuike said.
