Abia First Lady Welcomes First Baby Of The Year

The wife of Abia State Governor, Mrs Priscilla Otti, has welcomed the historic first baby of the year, 2026 with a sum of one million Naira cash and other gift items.

The 2026 first baby of the year, little Miss Oluebubechi Excessgrace Nwatuobi , who was born at exactly 12:43 a.m on January 1, 2026, weighing 3kg at birth, was born at the Akirika Ukwu Primary Healthcare Centre, Ukwa East Local Government Area.

Welcoming the first baby of the year, Mrs Otti, presented to the newborn and her mother with essential gifts, including bags of rice, milk, groundnut oil, sanitary items, in addition to a cash donation of One Million Naira.

She explained that the gesture was aimed at supporting the mother’s nutrition and overall wellbeing during the nursing period.

The Abia first lady, who was full of excitement, also named the bundle of joy “Ihuoma,” , expressing the hope that the child would grow in peace, grace, and favour of God Almighty, and described the birth as a joyful and symbolic beginning to the new year.

Mrs. Otti, who noted that the birth place reflects the steady improvement and functionality of Abia State’s Primary Healthcare System, encouraged expectant and nursing mothers across the state to have confidence in government-owned health facilities and make proper use of them at all times.

The first lady urged the parents to raise her with strong moral values that would positively shape her future and offered prayers for the baby.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Health, Professor Enoch Ogbonnaya Uche, commended Mrs.
Otti for her consistent support of the health sector, highlighting her contributions in complementing the reforms of Governor Alex Otti in strengthening healthcare delivery across the state.

Professor Uche, who lauded Governor Alex Otti for his sustained vision that has seen to the functionalisation of many Primary Healthare Centres (PHCs) in the state , enjoined all to ensure they patronise the healthcare facilities being retrofitted across the wards in the state.

He said that there is no reason for any pregnant woman to die because of lack of healthcare facilities, and urged them to make use of the various PHCs being functionalised in the state.

The Matron of the healthcare centre, Kasarachi Emmanuel, expressed gratitude to the First Lady for the visit and the donations she made, describing them as timely and impactful.

Responding, the parents of the newborn, Mr. Nwatuobi Chiagozie and Mrs. Blessing Chinagozie, natives of Itungwa in Obingwa Local Government Area, thanked Mrs. Otti for her kindness and for making the birth of their daughter a memorable and joyful experience.

They prayed God to bless the wife of the governor and the Government of Abia State, under the leadership of Gov. Otti.

Some top government officials accompanied the wife of the Governor to the hospital.
