The Abia APC Renaissance Group has called on Governor Alex Otti to make the most of his planned meeting with President Bola Tinubu by taking steps to align Abia State with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement signed by Comrade Udeagha Agbayi, the group noted that the governor’s scheduled visit to the Presidential Villa, Abuja, this week presents a strategic opportunity to strengthen his relationship with the President and advance Abia’s political and developmental interests.
The group expressed expectations that Governor Otti would address several pressing concerns during the meeting, including what it described as an ongoing clampdown on opposition activities in the state—particularly those involving the Renewed Hope Partners.
The statement further noted that the meeting should provide Governor Otti an avenue to explain how his administration has utilised the foreign loans it acquired, as well as other resources reportedly earmarked for the state’s development.
The APC Renaissance Group also urged the governor to give clarity on why he continues to run government affairs from his private residence rather than from the Abia Government House, despite the billions spent on renovation projects across the state. The group specifically referenced the reported ₦54 billion allocated for school renovations, stating that many schools do not reflect such expenditure.
Additionally, the group raised concerns over the non-implementation of the approved minimum wage for certain health workers in the state—a development it said has significantly eroded the goodwill that contributed to Governor Otti’s victory in 2023, and could impact his prospects for a second term.
The statement stressed that the governor must not allow the opportunity to address what it termed the “anomalies” in his administration to slip away, warning that such a chance may not come again soon.
While acknowledging that it is not within its powers to determine who is accepted into the APC, the group emphasized that although the party welcomes new members, it does not welcome “liabilities.”
