For years, Obohia Road in Aba stood as a painful reminder of neglect. It represented a signpost of sorrow and sadness.

Once a strategic link connecting traders, residents, and businesses to the heart of Aba, the road gradually deteriorated into potholes, gullies, and stagnant water. Movement became a struggle. Businesses relocated. Property values crashed. And for the people who lived and worked along it, daily life was defined by frustration.

In continuation of his road infrastructure revolution, the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, directed and mobilised contractors to recommence work on the road. He didn’t just instruct, he ensured that there was immedia action. The action is on.
From the very first day equipment moved to site, it was clear this would not be business as usual. Work has been progressing speedily, with drainage amd earthworks being done to modern standards. For the first time in decades, residents are seeing real hope return to Obohia.

Why Obohia Road Matters:
Obohia Road is not just another street in Aba. It is an economic and strategic artery.
The road which leads all the way to Ukwa, alao connects key markets, residential areas, and adjoining streets to major commercial hubs in Aba. With reconstruction ongoing, movement of people, goods, and services will be faster, safer, and cheaper.

Aba runs on trade. Bad roads kill business. By fixing Obohia, the government is directly unlocking the volume of business activities. Shop owners who had closed down are preparing to return. Suppliers can now move in and out without losing goods to bad roads.
Infrastructure drives value. As work progresses, land and property values along Obohia Road are already appreciating. Families who had abandoned houses are returning. Investors are taking a second look.
A motorable, well-lit road reduces hideouts for criminals and makes policing easier. Residents living at Obohia and environs are already reporting a renewed sense of safety. Of course, by the time the road is completed, it would experience the Otti light-up Abia signature, which ensures that every completed road project comes with streetlights.
The reconstruction of Obohia Road is part of a larger pattern. Since 2023, Governor Alex Otti has made road infrastructure the centerpiece of his administration’s development agenda.
From Port Harcourt Road to Cemetery Road, to Ohanku road and now Obohia, the approach is the same: identify critical roads, fund them properly, and deliver quality work on time.
This is governance with understanding. Dr. Otti recognizes that roads are not just about tar and cement. They are about dignity. They are about connecting people to opportunity. They are about making Aba work again as the commercial capital of the South-East.
Roads drive commerce. Commerce drives jobs. Jobs drive prosperity. That is the philosophy guiding this administration. And Obohia Road is proof of that philosophy in action.
For traders who had to carry goods on their heads through mud, for students who missed school because of floods, and for landlords who watched their investments waste away, Obohia Road’s rebirth would mean more than asphalt on completion.
It would mean that government remembered them when it mattered most.
It would mean that business can thrive again.
As work continues speedily on Obohia Road, one thing is clear: Governor Alex Otti’s infrastructure revolution is not about headlines. It is about impact. And for the people of Obohia and Aba at large, that impact is already being felt.
Kudos to Governor Alex Otti for ensuring that help is here at last.
