As an opposition leader, he gave those who played “lord” over Abians sleepless nights, until he finally decimated the heinous hegemony that held Abia down for decades. He did it with character, courage and class. He proved that he is indeed a Child of Grace, destined to rewrite the history of his people in a manner that is both precious and unprecedented. And through it all, the people stood with him. Always.
At his emergence, he took a decision that many who passed through what he passed through would never have taken. He told us that, in spite of the unprovoked hate and violence he suffered over the years, especially the assassination attempt in Abuja which claimed the life of his police orderly, he would commit himself to serving the people rather than embarking on vengeance.
Hear him: “Every role played by anyone in the course of the struggle was a role predestined and assigned to that person.” And again: “We have only four years to serve our people, and if by the Grace of God we get an additional four years, we would be grateful. Therefore, we cannot afford to waste our time chasing those who ruined our state and those who attacked us on many occasions. We must focus on building a brand new Abia.”
On two or three occasions, he only mentioned the government of his predecessor when he had to respond during interviews. Unfortunately, some persons have continued to use their low standard of bitterness and bigotry to create a facade of fight and fury against his immediate predecessor, even when there is no evidence that he is fighting anyone.
One of his most cherished philosophies is that, “It is more honourable to have a verbal agreement with a man of character than a written agreement with a thief.” This is why he goes for the best – those who can deliver results. He goes for character and capacity. He wants to serve his people, and serve them diligently. He is destined to do that with honour and dignity.
To the bigots who are crying up and down, using his name to create infantile content in the name of opposition, I have a message for you: You lack a sense of history. You have refused to learn from your previous folly-induced failures. Ejighi bicycle eyija truck. ( A bicycle cannot be used to frighten a truck). Your voyage is doomed even before its commencement.
Hate is no manifesto. Anger does not win an election. Propaganda does not build capacity. Wishes do not produce results.
Mark today’s date and save it very well: Governor Alex Otti will win with more than twice the number of votes he polled to win the 2023 election. God has decreed it, and millions of honest and peace-loving Abians are unanimously in agreement. You do not have the capacity to halt Abia’s moment of glory.
Help is here at last!
