By Kingsley Alozie (Aba)

The governor of Abia State, Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu has recently intensified effort in road construction at the commercial hub of the state, Aba.

The push on road construction at Aba in his second tenure of administration is no doubt laudable.

The improvement on road construction has been adjudged to boost economic activities and make life easier for Aba residents.

But from the scene of the newly constructed Osusu road is worrisome. If drastic attention is not given, some of the roads will not survive the next raining season.

Candidreporters.com monitored the drainage system of the newly constructed Osusu road and faulks road after a mild down pour.

The drainage system happened not to be serving the purpose due to the visible heavy flow of water noticed on the surface of the road which lasted for hours.

Thus, if urgent and drastic attention is not given to the road, possibly questioning the contractors of the below standard road projects, the legacy of road construction by governor Okezie Ikpeazu will go into extinction before the end of his administration.

Faulks road which have been given attention by the same administration of governor Okezie Ikoeazu is also under threat.

Asa road by shopping Center is not also exempted as the axis was also flooded.

Of what legacy and prestige will it serve when roads heavy spent on by a state government fails to meet required standard.

Thus, it is pertinent to say that while given road projects, strict condition and supervision should be given to contractors and when they default, they should be mandated to do the right thing.
