Dr. Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah, CON, OON, FCA, is a distinguished Nigerian entrepreneur,
public servant, philanthropist, and thought leader whose life embodies excellence, integrity, and service to humanity.
He is the immediate past Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,
having served as Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR.
Dr. Ogah is the Founder and President of Masters Energy Group, a diversified conglomerate
with strategic interests in oil and gas, manufacturing, power, finance, real estate, and logistics.
Through his visionary leadership, Masters Energy has become a key player in Nigeria’s industrial landscape, creating thousands of jobs and contributing meaningfully to national economic growth.
A lifelong learner, Dr. Ogah holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Business Administration from Lead City University, Ibadan. He continues to broaden his global
exposure and executive capacity through ongoing Executive Education at Harvard Business
School and other prestigious international institutions, including the University of Cambridge
Judge Business School.
His academic journey began at the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu,
where he graduated with distinction in Accountancy in 1995. He proceeded to the University of
Nigeria, Nsukka, for a Postgraduate Diploma in 1999, and later earned an MBA from the
University of Lagos in 2006. A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria
(FCA), Dr. Ogah built a solid professional foundation in the banking sector, particularly at Zenith Bank Plc, where he rose rapidly to the position of Assistant General Manager after an
outstanding decade marked by innovation and excellence.
In 2006, he transitioned from banking to entrepreneurship, founding Masters Energy Oil &
Gas, the flagship brand for the Masters Energy Group, which now employs over 6,000 people
directly and indirectly across multiple subsidiaries. Under his leadership, the Group has
developed one of the largest petroleum storage facilities in West Africa and established Masters
Energy Industrial City, the largest manufacturing cluster east of the Niger.
As Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Ogah demonstrated visionary
leadership and policy innovation. He championed key reforms such as the Presidential
Artisanal Gold Mining Initiative (PAGMI), which produced Nigeria’s first National Gold Policy
and Gold Purchase Scheme. He strengthened intergovernmental collaboration across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas through partnerships with ALGON and advanced research and development linkages between the National Metallurgical Development Centre, the Nigerian Defence Academy, and DICON.
A recipient of Nigeria’s prestigious National Honours — Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) and Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) — Dr. Ogah’s influence extends beyond business and public service. Through the Uche Ogah Foundation, he has transformed countless lives by offering scholarships, funding medical outreaches, and executing community development projects, including the Wilson Ogah Auditorium at Abia State University, Uturu.
His humanitarian service has earned him numerous recognitions, including “Onwa Abia” by the
Abia State Government and United Nations Ambassador of Peace (UN-POLAC).
Dr. Ogah’s excellence has been acknowledged through several awards, such as The Sun
Newspaper Investor of the Year, Business World Man of the Year, and the Nigeria-American Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Entrepreneur Award.
He is a Fellow and member of several professional bodies, including the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, the Chartered Institute of Taxation, the Nigerian Institute of Shipping, and the Chartered Institute of Bankers.
