President Bola Tinubu has appointed Former Minority Leader of Abia State House of Assembly, Hon Chijioke Chukwu as member Representing South East in the newly created North West Development Commission, NWDC.

The Former Bende North State Constituency lawmaker is among the updated list of nominees for the Governing Boards of the North West Development Commission (NWDC) and the South East Development Commission (SEDC) to the Senate for confirmation.

This announcement was made in a statement from the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Friday.

In the revised nominations, Alhaji Lawal Samai’la Abdullahi was appointed as Chairman of the NWDC, succeeding Ambassador Haruna Ginsau from the initial list.

The new NWDC board includes Ja’afar Abubakar Sadeeq and Yahaya Aminu Abdulhadi, with Professor Abdullahi Shehu Ma’aji retaining his position as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.

President Tinubu named Ambassador Haruna Ginsau as chairman of the NWDC board, alongside Senator Tijani Yahaya Kaura and Hon. Abdulkadir S. Usman as members.

“This new list replaces them with Ja’afar Abubakar Sadeeq and Yahaya Aminu Abdulhadi, while Alhaji Lawal Samai’la Abdullahi assumes the role of chairman.”

The statement continued, “The earlier board members included Dr. Yahaya Umar Namahe, Yahaya Aminu Abdulhadi, Engr. Muhammad Ali Wudil, Shamsu Sule, Nasidi Ali, and Aminu Suleiman.

“Following the President’s first list of nominees, the Senate amended the NWDC’s establishment act to incorporate members from all geopolitical zones.”

These revised nominations reflect the Senate’s adjustments to the NWDC’s establishment act, which now requires representation from all six geopolitical zones.

The appointed representatives include Chukwu Chijioke, Ahmed Mohammed, Engr. Ahmed Rufai Timasaniyu, Macdonalds Michael Uyi, Yemi Ola, and Hon. Babatunde Dada.

Tinubu underscored the significance of these commissions in promoting regional development and expressed confidence in the appointees’ capabilities to fulfil their mandates for the benefit of their respective regions.
