Rapid FM 96.5MHz, has commenced broadcast transmission in grand style in the city of Umuahia, the Abia state capital.

Speaking to newsmen in a press conference on Monday, the head of station, Mr. John Nkamiang, a versatile, experienced journalist and broadcaster hinted that Rapid Broadcasting Network Limited,
owners of Rapid Radio and Television has ensured that Rapid fm radio waves hit Abia and environs since 1st September, 2022.

John also stated that “the philosophy behind the establishment of Rapid fm is local but global which was evident on the live streaming on the social media handles of the station.”

Rapid fm s said to render 24-hours services.

Responding to questions fed by newsmen on why the choice of setting up the broadcast station in Umuahia, John said Abia deserves a quality radio station considering the peaceful environment and ease of doing business.

In his words: “If Lagos and Abuja has had it’s fair share in quality radio broadcast, why can’t Umuahia has it’s fair share?”

John also added that Rapid fm is a radio station which focuses on Urban, lifestyle, music and entertainment. He also emphasized that it doesn’t rule out the fact that there won’t be political, current affairs and sports contents “but it will come with a twist.”

“Lifestyle is key to us, it will make people see who we are and why we take the decision we have chosen. We want to build that platform where people will be heard and engaged” John added.

As a station with state of the art equipment, John also emphasized that part of the blue print of the management is to give digital transmission of programs to Abians all over the world through the application of digital and internet broadcasting.

The station head also revealed that Rapid television station will soon hit the airwaves as the equipment are in place for take off.

Don chukwus , a member of the Directorates, Rapid FM also added that it took three years to battle through all the bottlenecks of setting up Rapid FM but completed for sound transmission of quality radio sounds.

Chukwus also added that the original plan was to set up the station in Abuja but on a second thought, the management felt that the saying “charity begins at home” has to be enacted.

Chukwus also added that the focus is to export the Igbo culture and lifestyle to those in diaspora, especially those who where born and raised up overseas and may never has visited home.

“Our journey here is simple, we are here to let the people know why we are here and we have come to stay to contribute our quota.” Chukwus said.

As regards the recruitment and welfare of staff of Rapid fm, the station head revealed that they are “recruiting young people who are upwardly wise and they will be the driving voice of the station with good welfare package” to keep them motivated to work.

He also stated that the station must remain politically neutral as it will create room for objectivity and balancing in news coverage and reportage which will be in line with the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) code of ethics.
