Professor Uchenna Eleazer Ikonne, the immediate past Vice Chancellor of Abia State University, Uturu has officially decleared his interest to join Abia gubernatorial race.
Prof Ikonne made his decleration at the Umuahia PDP secretariat conference hall on Thursday stating that it took him years of discipline studying under some Abians upon which he has acquired a number of experience and “the nuances of administration in human and natural resources”.
Party faithfuls and supporters where on ground to cheer up their preferred candidate.
Candidreporters.com recalls that there has been speculation that professor Ikonne is the anointed candidate of the sitting governor, his Excellency, Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu.
Prof Ikonne in his decleration asked the party chairman to give him the ticket to contest because he has what it takes to govern Abia on the part of infrastructural and human resource development.
While commenting on the speculation that he has not been on ground for Abia politics, prof Ikonne said he has been between parties and politics.
“Some may say I have not been part of you, I have been between the parties of politics without enjoying the privilege of a politician. I want to be at the center because I have all what it takes which you all can testify to.” Prof Ikonne said.
Prof Ikonne also added that PDP as a Party is looking for “a tutoured strong hand that is welfare oriented, that has the local need experience, a man that has international exposure.”
In his words: “I have what others don’t have. I have all it takes which you can testify to. You have been enjoying the dividends of democracy. I have been working for politics. Give me the ticket to run for the party. I will toll the part of infrastructural and human development.”

The Abia PDP chairman, Alwell Asiforo Okere in his acceptance speech said Ikonne has been presented as a good product.
In his words: “I want to tell him before all sitting here. I will give him under one condition. It is on the condition that the people of the party (Delegate) , that will choose who will govern them. You have a good product.”
He also urged them to be peaceful in their campaign having in mind that they are all one family.
